I designed and developed JuegosJuegos.pe as a complete online gaming platform for the Peruvian and Latin American market, transforming a basic game catalog into a full-featured community platform. The project covers the entire scope: server architecture, custom WordPress theme from scratch, gamification system, user management, and performance optimization.
The platform features a Netflix-style homepage with 7 dynamic sections including billboard hero, continue playing, top 10 rankings, personalized recommendations, and trending games. Built with a 'Neon Arcade Cinematheque' design system — 6,600+ lines of custom CSS, 1,028 lines of vanilla JavaScript, zero frameworks. Key features include an immersive game player with fullscreen and landscape lock on mobile, AJAX favorites system, star ratings, YouTube-style game lists with public sharing, user profiles with achievements, and full GamiPress gamification integration.
The architecture features a triple abstraction layer (42 wrapper functions) ensuring the theme works even if plugins are deactivated. Performance was optimized through WordPress Transient caching on all homepage queries, static PHP caching to prevent N+1 queries, and a plugin audit reducing active plugins from 40 to 15 (-62.5%). The project also included data migration from 3 legacy plugins and a fix for an undocumented third-party SDK bug.
